Sanctuary of Hope

Dear Friends,

We are living through a time of struggle and transition. Our national values and collective lives are under tremendous stress. Some of us are hesitant to even look at the headlines. While it is true that we are facing uncertainty at the national level, we continue to care for one another and provide safe space for those of us who feel most threatened.

I believe we need a balance between caring for ourselves and doing some good in the world. Sunday mornings and our many small group ministries are a great way to be renewed and build resilience. We will continue to provide music and words that inspire and give us some hope.

We are also ramping up our efforts to do good in the world. We have joined the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia and we have already been called upon to support immigrants in need in the coming months. We are actively involved in environmental justice work through our Bio-Diversity efforts. We are gearing up for further outreach to the unhoused. And we continue to be a Welcoming Congregation especially to our Trans neighbors and friends.

Recently the UUA encouraged us to review our digital safety protocols with special attention given to those staff and leaders who might be targeted. Given our plans to increase our social justice presence in the wider community, we have taken down the staff page that included photographs and direct emails on our website. In its place are the titles of our staff and an email link to reach us. We are doing this for the safety of our staff and leaders as they continue to support us in the good work we are doing. Our doors remain open for those who have found their spiritual home here, and the many, more each week, who are finding their way to our sanctuary of hope. As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to me.

Keep the faith, all change starts small.
