Invitation to Rest
It is easy to become overwhelmed with the world’s events and politics, but the hard part is to learn to let those go for a moment and live in the space of darkness and rest.
Our UU Values call us to continue the work of Justice as a covenant to dismantle racism and all forms of systemic oppression. This work is laborious and can be overwhelming. However, the most important aspect to continue this work is the power of rest as resistance and building resilience.
Rest is a superpower that enables us to go within the dark realm of our minds, bodies, and souls to be rejuvenated. Welcome in the darkness, the stillness and the calm, to let go of the day, the busyness of the world, and to allow the overstimulation of the world’s happenings to pause for just a moment. The dream world is one place where we can find hope. Hope lives in the space that has yet to be created. When we disconnect from the ongoings of the world, when we disconnect and rest, sleep invites us into the dream world where hope lives and thrives. It is the place where we can collect our strength, delve into our imagination, and take solace.
My invitation to you all is to breathe, sleep, and rest. For a moment, close your eyes and let yourselves drift off to rest in the dream world where anything is possible, because this world needs you to fight another day.
