Family Holiday Happenings

Friends, it is The Holiday Season. If you are a parent with kids at home, I see you, I salute you, onward. It can be fun (it really can be!) but it is also A LOT. With that said, here are the holiday season offerings at MLUC especially designed for families with kids. Come on out!

This week, we have a Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday at 2 p.m. Sign up Wednesday by 6 p.m.!

Next week, we have the Holiday Workshop immediately following a very short worship service on Sunday, Dec. 8. There are a variety of craft booths that you and your children can visit to make stuff that might be useful during the holiday season or be something you could give as a gift. Sign up to bring cookies or host a craft booth (most supplies/directions provided!) or just come participate (light lunch foods will also be available). We also start hosting families without housing through Family Promise that week. If you are looking for a way to share the spirit of giving with your kids, this is a big opportunity to do that.

Throughout the month, if you are looking for a somewhat smaller (but still impactful) way to make holiday spirit concrete with your littles, we are accepting donations of Winter Warmth items.

On Friday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. we are holding a lively, musical Solstice Service with lots of moving around and dancing, and then a Carol Sing at 6:30 p.m. Come for one or both! There are two Christmas Eve services on Dec. 24. The 5 p.m. service is a no-rehearsal community nativity pageant. There are a very few specific roles bigger kids can sign up for ahead of time (and we are looking for a family with a baby or toddler to play the Holy Family, no speaking required). But mostly, come a few minutes early, pick a costume, and come up to be part of the tableau when it’s your character’s turn. The 7 p.m. service is a more traditional Candlelight service ending with actual live flame in everyone’s hand (make your choices about how much fire you want in your life that evening wisely).

On Dec. 29, we’ll have Hanukkah games and activities for kids instead of the usual workshops.
