Unitarian Universalist Partnerships
MLUC’s social justice work includes partnerships with the larger community of Unitarian Universalism. Some of our UU partners are:
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC)
Unitarian Universalist Justice Pennsylvania (UUJusticePA)
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is a nonsectarian organization that advances human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world, envisioning a world free from oppression and injustice, where all can realize their full human rights. It originated 70 years ago to help people escape Nazi persecution.
Through a combination of advocacy, education, and partnerships with grassroots organizations, UUSC promotes economic rights, advances environmental justice, defends civil liberties, and preserves the rights of people in times of humanitarian crisis.
They also engage communities around the world by teaming up with the UU College of Social Justice, which introduces participants to the work of domestic and overseas partners who are often on the front lines of addressing social justice issues.
UUSC’s efforts are built on the conviction that all people are entitled to basic human rights, which transcend divisions of class, race, nationality, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, and gender.
Main Line Unitarian Church has a long history of supporting UUSC, and we encourage every member’s support by:
Becoming a UUSC volunteer
Participating in the annual holiday Guest at Your Table program
Attending special UUSC events at the church
Learning more about UUSC by visiting www.uusc.org
UUSC is financially independent from the Unitarian Universalist Association and the federal government. Member contributions make up about 60% of its annual budget.
For more information, contact Craig Farr, the church’s UUSC representative.
Unitarian Universalist Justice Pennsylvania
UUJusticePA is the Unitarian legislative advocacy group in Pennsylvania formerly known as UUPLAN (UU PA. Legislative Advocacy Network).
Vision Statement
Pennsylvania UUs are aware of justice issues and are called to speak and take action that leads to a better Commonwealth.
Mission Statement
Pursuing justice by voting, advocating and making just public policies. UUJPA represents Unitarian Universalists across Pennsylvania with six Justice Teams: Gun Violence Prevention; Environmental Justice; Good Government; Criminal Justice Reform; Reproductive Justice; and Economic Justice. Racial Justice is inherent in all of our justice teams and all that we do. Each Justice Team meets once a month on a team zoom call with other members across PA. Every team advocates for their issue with lobby days and congregational advocacy action (post card writing, speakers, etc.). This is a great way to learn more about legislative advocacy and action and to practice it with other UU friends both in local legislative offices or at the capitol in Harrisburg. There are two annual meetings where all teams, UUJPA administration, and members meet. There is also a monthly newsletter highlighting team news and ‘Action Alerts’ as needed.
